Going down the memory hole

August 29, 2007

I heard this on NPR on my way in to work this morning, apparently China’s Thought Police are concerned that their national eddict to ban all illegal web surfing (ie. gambling, porn, dissident thought) hasn’t stopped a segment of the populace (I believe they’re called Proles, if memory serves me right) from visiting said sites on a regular basis.

China’s solution?

Tiny animated Chinese internet cops that “patrol” the web every 30 minutes. The anime morality enforcement officers will serve to remind users that it’s wrong to click on questionable sites, also allowing the truly loyal to report transgressions whether it be fellow citizens, friends, or family members…sound familiar?

It should, if not you were sleeping during high school English Lit. The whole thing is so frightening, I’m going to finish this entire bottle of Victory Gin and enjoy a rousing, “Two Minutes Hate” session.

Hail Big Brother.

On another note…how much you wanna bet the little girl in AVP-R is going to be Ripley as a kid and they’ll have some dipsey-doo excuse like repressed memory to explain her not remembering her childhood Alien run-in?

Just saying.
